ENGLISH LEARNING BASED ON MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AT SMP PERMATA HATI PURWOKERTO



Abstract: The aims of this research here to describe research English learning based on multiple intelligences for students with special needs and to investigate the obstacles and efforts to overcome those obstacles in the learning process. The research was conducted in the seventh grade, which consists of thirteen students of SMP Permata Hati Purwokerto in the academic year 2023/2024. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive, employing data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation techniques. The results showed that the teacher provides learning with strategies that align with what students like and what they need. Within this series of strategies, there is a role for multiple intelligences, even though it's small. With an individualized learning program that relies on the needs and learning styles of students, teacher is able to treat students differently while still accommodating their needs. Some of the obstacles include preparing students before the lesson begins, keeping students focused during the lesson, and managing students who are either too active or too passive. The teacher employed some efforts to overcome these obstacles, by creating engaging learning experiences, providing full support, incorporating humor and laughter into the lessons, ice-breaking activities, and other refreshing elements, with students becoming a source of learning for the teacher.
